When you download this bottle topper design, you will find four files. One is the full embroidery file, two are dielines for the hat and one dieline is for the beard.

The dieline files are marked with the letters marked with the letters "DL". These files are used to cut the fabric pieces to the right shape and size.

Dielines are used to cut the fabric to the right shape and size. Open the dieline files with embroidery software and print them.

If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom TrueSizer is a free program to use.

To prepare the front fabric piece, lightly spray the back side of the front piece dieline with temporary spray adhesive. Smooth the paper template over top of the fabric, and cut out the shape.

Cut out the back fabric piece and the beard. Note: Make sure the nap of the fur is going in the preferred direction.

Hoop a piece of tear-away stabilizer. Load the full embroidery file and attach the hoop to the machine.

Begin embroidering the design. The first thing to stitch is a dieline for placement.

After the dieline has stitched, remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer.

Spray the outer edges of the back side of the front fabric piece with adhesive, and place the fabric piece right inside the shape.

Attach the hoop back onto the machine and continue with the design. A running stitch tackdown will sew next. This will bind the fabric to the stabilizer.

Other elements of the design will sew next.

Watch for a note on the color change sheet that says "finishing seam." When you reach this step, remove the hoop from the machine.

Lay the back fabric piece, face down, over the front piece. Place masking tape over the edges of the back piece to avoid shifting.

Attach the hoop back onto the machine and continue sewing. The finishing seam will stitch next; this binds the back piece to the front piece.

After the design has finished, gently remove the masking tape and tear away the stabilizer; the dieline will be removed as well.

Run a line of hot glue, two inches from the point of the hat, along the back seam allowance of the fabric and place a pipe cleaner over the glue.

Once the glue has dried, turn the fabric right side out. Use the back of a pencil or end of a paint brush to push the point of the hat out and cut the excess pipe cleaner.

Run a line of hot glue along the inside edge of the front piece and place the fur over the glue, no more than 0.25" past the edge of the fabric.

To finish your bottle topper, use a small wooden bead for your gnome's nose. Position the bead on the front of the hat and use hot glue to secure it.
