When you download the Snowman Snowglobe Ornament design, you'll find four files. Two are embroidery files "a" and "b". The other two are the front and back dielines for the applique used in design file "b", marked with the letters DL.

Dielines are used to cut the fabric to the right shape and size. Open the dieline files with embroidery software and print them.

If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom TrueSizer is a free program to use.

Cut around the paper dielines. Lightly spray the back sides of the paper dielines with temporary spray adhesive and smooth them onto the quilters cotton.

Spray a piece of medium weight cutaway stabilizer with temporary adhesive, and smooth it onto the back side of the quilters cotton.

Cut out the shapes and remove the paper. Set these aside and continue creating the ornament.

Wind a bobbin to match each thread you'll be using for the top of the embroidery. Since the designs for this ornament are stitched on sheer organza, the embroidery will be visible from the front and back.

There are a couple of different kinds of water-soluble stabilizer that we recommend. One is clear and plastic, and that brand is Sulky Ultra Solvy. The other is soft and fibrous, called Vilene. Both will work very well. Vilene is used in this demonstration. Spray the water-soluble stabilizer lightly with temporary adhesive, and smooth it onto the back of the organza.

Use a size 11 or 75/11 sharp sewing needle has a smaller, finer point than an embroidery needle. That means it will make smaller holes in the stabilizer.

Hoop the stabilizer firmly. Make sure it is nice and tight (almost like a drum), with no wrinkles.

This design consists of two embroidery files, one for the snowglobe layer and one for the snowglobe base.

Load the "a" file onto the embroidery machine and embroider the design.

After the embroidery is finished, cut away the excess stabilizer. Follow the instructions on the stabilizer's packaging to remove the excess stabilizer. For Vilene, soak the organza piece in water for a few moments.

Let the organza air dry, then press using a pressing cloth between the iron and the embroidery, with the iron set on a low heat setting.

To embroider the snowglobe base, firmly hoop a piece of tearaway stabilizer and load the "b" file onto the embroidery machine. The first step to sew out will be the dieline for the applique piece.

Remove the hoop from the machine, but do not remove the stabilizer from the hoop.
Lightly spray the stabilizer side of the front piece and place it within the sewn dieline.

Return the hoop to the machine and continue sewing the design. Once the interior details have sewn out, the back piece dieline will sew.

Remove the hoop from the machine, leaving the stabilizer hooped.

Turn the hoop over, lightly spray the stabilizer side of the back applique piece, and place it within the dieline.

Return the hoop to the machine and finish sewing the design. Once the design has completed, carefully remove the design from the tearaway stabilizer, and set the applique piece aside.

To assemble the ornament, first lay the panel face up and mark the center top of the design using an air erase pen.

Lay piece "a" over the inner hoop of the hand embroidery hoop.

Place the outer hoop over the fabric, so that the mark lines up with the center of the hoop screw.

Press firmly so that the fabric lays smooth and taut. Do not trim the edges.

Now cut out a 7" x 7" square piece of light weight vinyl and hoop the vinyl securely in a second hand embroidery hoop, leaving no wrinkles or bunching.

Lay the embroidery hoops with the raw edge of the fabric up, and trim the excess fabric. Try to get as close to the hoop's edge as possible.

Use hot glue to adhere the back of the hoop containing the vinyl to the front of the hoop containing the organza.

Press the hoops together firmly and allow the hot glue to dry.

To finish this ornament, lay a strip of hot glue on the front bottom center of the vinyl hoop. Then place design "b" over the glue. Carefully apply pressure for ten seconds, being careful not to burn your fingertips.

Slide a ribbon through the hoop screws to create a hanging loop for the ornament, to display it in a window or on the mantel.
