Fashionable Fleece Poncho
This poncho is a perfect, cozy addition to any winter wardrobe. Read on for free project instructions on how to make your own fashionable fleece poncho!
Designs Used: I used the large size of the Fluttering Filigree Border and the large size of the Fluttering Filigree Corner. Choose designs from the Borders and Corners category to create a fashionable fleece poncho as unique as you! Finished Size: 35" wide by 35" high
I will begin by cutting a piece of fleece to 36 wide by 36 high. Lay the fleece flat with the right side facing up. Create paper templates of the designs by printing them at full size using embroidery software. If you havent worked with templates to position designs before, see these step-by-step instructions for more information about making and using templates.
Cut around the templates to make them easy to place. Arrange them on the fabric how you want them. I placed a corner design on each side and bottom corners of the fabric with the outer edges of the designs about 2" from the outer edges of the fabric. I also placed border designs along the edges of the fabric (in between the corner designs) with the outer edges of the designs about 2" from the outer edges of the fabric. I then measured equal distances in between the side edges of each of the designs.
Have fun planning your placement of the designs - you can place them anywhere you like. Here is an example of some border designs running up just one side of the poncho.
And here is an example of two corner designs placed near the bottom corner and a border along each side edge.
Remove the templates and draw lines connecting the marks. Spray a piece of medium weight cutaway stabilizer with temporary adhesive and smooth the fabric on top. Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together by aligning the marks on the hoop with the lines on the fabric.
If you are embroidering on a textured or high pile fleece, add one piece of water soluble stabilizer on top of the fleece and hoop all three layers together. This topping prevents the stitches from sinking too far into the fabric. I am embroidering on smooth fleece, so no topping was needed.
