No matter where we are, we can't help but be fascinated by what's somewhere else. Such was the case in 17th- and 18th-century Europe, where a craze for everything Chinese led to a new hybrid style of interior decorating, furniture, pottery, and textiles known as "Chinoiserie" -- French for, approximately, "Chinese-esque." It's ornate and imaginative, reflecting "exotic" Asian decorative art and culture as seen through European eyes.

This week's new designs capture the spirit of Chinoiserie, coming back into fashion once again. Fanciful birds and lush flowers make up a collection of traditional Chinoiserie embroidery.
