NEW THIS WEEK - July 12th, 2006:
Summery Stitches
In the summertime, early morning walks are a great way to start the day. Greeted by a colorful array of wild flowers, garden blooms, and delightful birds and surprising critters, we can't help but feel invigorated and refreshed.
Nature's best efforts to cheer us are always welcome in our lives, and we are inspired to reflect this in our thread art, creating pretty things for our homes, as well as apparel.
This week's designs offer an opportunity to brighten and freshen a most important room of the house -- the bedroom. Summer bedroom decor should be light and breezy, filled with an ambiance of ease in restful surroundings.
Create a new set of lovely linens with new designs in a wide choice of themes: daisies, roses, elegant scrollwork, paisley, or ivy.
Learn how to apply the "lovely linens" designs to sheets and pillowcases, with a coordinating pillow!
Delight in adding a coordinating border to new sheers for the windows, and let the morning sun play on your walls. Splash the bed and sitting area with summery Trapunto pillows in floral motifs. Trapunto designs in one-color stitching are super for summer-light fabrics. You'll love how this high-relief work imparts a subtle beauty and rich depth to a summer coverlet or scatter pillow. And, this technique is also a masterful way to dress up simple apparel -- make some pockets for a skirt, fashion a belt, add pizzazz to a T-top.
Bring magic to every sunlit corner of your summer realm, and enjoy sewing the designs.
Trapunto Embroidery for Papillon Fans Liddy-Ann, who always has a house full of little creatures, counts among her favorites the papillons, little spaniels with "butterfly" ears.
She wrote, "Attached is a photo of a 10-year-old female papillon, rescued from a puppy-mill, that I am fostering with her new best friend -- a 3-week-old kitten that was orphaned."
Liddy-Ann's request: "I love the new trapunto designs. Have always been fascinated by trapunto. Think you could whip out a trapunto butterfly? My Papillon Group would love them." We'll do one better, Liddy-Ann. A new Papillon trapunto square is just the framework to show off these adorable dogs. Enjoy!
