To start, using a measuring tape, measure the container around the middle (this container is 20" around).

This measurement will be used for the width of the wrap.

Then, decide how tall you would like the wrap to be.

Measure along the side of the container -- this one is 5" high.

Using your dimensions, draw a rectangle on the burlap.

In order for the wrap to overlap at the back, add 3" to the width dimension (this gave a 23" x 5" rectangle).

A template is a printout of a design, and it's an excellent tool for planning where to stitch.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software. If you do not have embroidery software to print templates, try Wilcom's TrueSizer, a free program.

Center the template onto the fabric. Mark the center point and the horizontal and vertical axis lines.

Remove the template.

Spray a piece of medium weight cutaway stabilizer with temporary adhesive and smooth the fabric on top.

Add a piece of heavy weight water-soluble stabilizer on top of the fabric -- this topping helps to prevent the stitches from sinking into the fabric.

Hoop all three layers together, aligning the marks on the hoop with the marks on the fabric.

Attach the hoop to the machine, load the design, and move the hoop so that the needle is directly over the center point on the fabric.

Embroider the design.

When the design has finished, trim away the excess stabilizer from the backside of the embroidery and also gently tear away the water-soluble stabilizer from the front.

You can use a damp sponge to remove any remaining bits.

Add the loop side of the Velcro on the backside of the wrap, and the hook side on the front side of the wrap.

You can also use sew-on Velcro (spray the backside with temporary adhesive and press it in place).
