Free project instructions to create an embroidered pillow wrap.

Update any pre-made pillow in a flash with an embroidered pillow wrap! Perfect for changing your home decor for different seasons, holidays, or to match a new decorating scheme.

Project Needs & Notes:

- 18" x 18" pillow
- 1 yard of lightweight canvas or twill (for wrap)
- 1/2 yard of lightweight canvas or twill (for embroidered patch)
- Medium-weight (2.5 ounce) cutaway stabilizer
- Air erase pen for marking
- Temporary spray adhesive

The designs featured in this tutorial are:
- M8623, Sweet Symmetry Flower Square 2
- M4679, Hibiscus and Tropical Frame

Special Notes:
This project is using a 7" x 7" embroidery design, but the embroidered patch can be altered to fit any size of design. Simply add 2" to both the width and height of your design to get the size of the patch. In this tutorial, we used an 7" x 7" design, so after the 2" was added, the embroidered square patch was 9" x 9".

Draw a 9" x 9" rectangle on a piece of the patch fabric, leaving a few inches of excess fabric around the shape for hooping.

A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software. If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is a free program to use.

Center the design in the square. Mark the center points and the vertical and horizontal axis lines.

Spray a piece of medium-weight cutaway stabilizer, and smooth the fabric on top.

Then hoop the fabric and stabilizer together, aligning the marks on the hoop with the lines on the fabric.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design.

Move the hoop until the needle is directly over the center point.

Embroider the design.

When the embroidery is finished, remove the hoop from the machine, and unhoop the fabric. Do not trim the stabilizer on the back of the embroidery.

Cut the drawn square out of the fabric and stabilizer together.

The stabilizer on the back of the entire patch will help with sturdiness.

Cut the rectangle out.
