Each applique design has two files.

One of the files is an embroidery file and the other is a dieline. The dieline file is marked with the letters DL. Dielines are used to cut the fabric to the right shape and size.

Open the dieline file with an embroidery software, and print it.

If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer  is a free program to use.

Spray the backside of the dieline printout with temporary adhesive and smooth it on top of the organza.

Position the template so the bottom of the design will be 2" up from the bottom of the towel, and center it between the sides.

Mark the center point, as well as the horizontal and vertical axis lines.

Cut a piece of cutaway stabilizer a bit larger than the hoop.

Spray the stabilizer with a temporary adhesive, and smooth it onto the back of the towel behind where the embroidery will be sewing..

Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together, aligning the marks on the hoop with the marks on the fabric.

Use clips to hold the excess fabric and it from sliding under the hoop while embroidering.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design.

Move the hoop so that the needle is directly aligned with the center point on the fabric.

Begin embroidering the design.
The first thing to embroider will be a dieline, or outline stitch. This marks the area on the stabilizer where we'll place the organza piece.

After the dieline sews, stop the machine, and remove the hoop, but do not unhoop the towel.

Spray the back of the applique piece with temporary adhesive.

Next, place the applique piece over the stitched dieline, carefully making sure the edges of the organza are evenly spaced around the outside of the stitched outline.

Once aligned, apply pressure to the organza piece with your hand to make sure it is adhered well to the fabric.

Attach the hoop back onto the machine, and continue with the design.

A tackdown stitch will go down first to bind the organza in place, and then the rest of the inside elements will sew.

When the design is finished, trim away the excess stabilizer from the back of the design leaving about a 1/2" around the embroidery.

With the transparency of the organza you can also play with layering the different designs.

Prepare the applique pieces and fabric following the steps above, but instead of printing out just one template, printout templates for every design you want to use.

Lay out all the templates at the same time, layering them as you would like.

Finally, mark every center point and axis line.

Embroider the designs one by one following the steps above.

Make sure to start with the design you want to be underneath the others, and the final design you sew will be the one on top of the rest.

For this example, the tree was sewn down first, then followed by the snowflakes so they would lay on top of the tree.
