Cut a piece of woven fabric to 9" x 30" high.

Measure and mark 6" up along each side starting at both bottom corners of the fabric.

Measure and mark the center of the bottom edge by measuring and dividing by two. Draw lines connecting the bottom mark to the side marks.

Trim the fabric along the lines.

Measure and mark 2" down along each side starting at both top corners. Draw a line connecting the marks. The area above the line will be used to create the dowel pocket later on.

Templates are printouts of embroidery designs, and they are excellent tools for planning where to stitch.

Open the embroidery designs in embroidery software and print them to make templates. If you don't have software, try Wilcom's TrueSizer, a free program.

Center the templates inside the shape as shown. There should be equal distances between each of the letters, and at least 2" between the top design and the top line.

Hoop the fabric for the second design just as you did for the first.

I added another smaller design inside the "O". To do this, leave the fabric hooped after embroidering the second design.

Align the center point of the template of the smaller design with the center mark of the second design -- make sure the design fits well within the shape.

Attach the hoop back onto the machine, load the design, align the needle with the center point, and embroider the design.

After the design has finished, trim away the excess stabilizer and embroider the final design.

Measure 1/2" down and then another 1" down along the sides starting at each top corner.

These marks will be used to create the dowel pocket.

Sew a 1/2" seam along the side, top, and bottom edges leaving the space between the marks open -- also leave about 4" open along one side for turning.

Turn the fabric right side out and press the seams with an iron.

Turn the opening in 1/2" and press. Sew a seams across the entire width of the fabric above and below the dowel pocket openings.

Then, top-stitch a 1/4" seam along the top, side, and bottom edges.
