Begin by laundering the Minky fabric and the flannel to remove any shrinkage.

Begin by planning where to stitch the designs.

In this example, a lamb design will be stitched in each corner.

A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software.
If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is
a free program to use.

When planning placement, leave room for seam allowances.

After the templates are positioned where you'd like to stitch the designs, mark the center points and the vertical and horizontal axis lines for each design.

Minky is a stretchy fabric. Use one piece of medium-weight (2.5 ounce) cutaway stabilizer.

Minky is fuzzy; a lightweight water-soluble stabilizer is an excellent topping. That prevents the stitches from sinking down into the fabric.

Hoop all three layers together, lining up the marks on the fabric with the marks on the hoop.

Attach the hoop to the machine and move the hoop so the needle is right over the center point.

Embroider the design. Use a size 11 or 75/11 embroidery needle.

Trim the excess cutaway stabilizer away from the back. Leave about 1/2" around the design.

Repeat the steps until all the designs are embroidered onto the Minky fabric.

Sew through both layers -- Minky and flannel -- to make diamonds. Use the Minky dots as guides, and stitch between every five dots.

Start in the center and stitch diagonally across the blanket.

Rotate the blanket 180 degrees, move five dots over, and stitch all the way across again.

After stitching lines across the blanket in one direction, rotate the blanket 90 degrees and stitch more lines to make diamonds.

Work from the center out to
keep the fabric from shifting or bunching.

Finish the blanket with your preferred method. In this example, we're finishing with a rolled hem.

Fold the flannel over the Minky once, about 1/2", then fold again.

Pin in place.

A sweet lamb and muted color palette give this blanket a sweet and cuddly appeal. For this example, we used the Fluffy Lamb design.

Bright teal fabric choices and a charming crab liven up this example. The design used is the Argyle Crab.
