Begin by planning where to stitch the design on the towel.

A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software.
If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is
a free program to use.

After the template is positioned where you'd like to stitch the design, mark the center point as well as the horizontal and vertical axis lines.

Hoop the towel with one piece of cutaway stabilizer, lining up the marks on the towel with the marks on the hoop.

Attach the hoop to the machine and move the hoop so the needle is right over the center point.

Embroider the design. A size 11, or 75/11 embroidery needle is a fine choice for embroidering on tea or kitchen towels.

After embroidering, trim the excess stabilizer away. I leave about 1/2" around the design.

Next, cut the print cotton to the proper size. The height will be 13", but the width will vary depending on the width of your towel.

This towel is 16" wide, and I'll add 1" for a seam allowance. That means that I'll cut the fabric 17" wide, and 13" tall.
