Prepare the fabric for the front pocket.

Using an air-erase pen, draw an 8" x 9" rectangle on the solid-colored quilted cotton fabric.

Measure and mark the center of each side and then draw lines connecting the marks -- where the lines meet is the center of the fabric.

Print a template of your design from embroidery software.

A template is a printout of a design, and it's an excellent tool for planning where to stitch.

If you do not have embroidery software to print templates, try  Wilcom's TrueSizer, a free program.

Align the center point of the template with the center point on the fabric. There should be at least 1" of space between the edges of the design and the edges of the shape.

Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together, aligning the marks on the hoop with the lines on the fabric.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design.

Move the hoop so that the needle is directly aligned with the center point on the fabric.

Embroider the design.

When the design has finished, trim away the excess stabilizer from the backside of the embroidery.

Cut out the shape.

Lay the embroidered fabric on top of the print quilter's cotton, wrong sides together.

Pin in place and cut around the shape of the embroidered piece.

Wrap bias tape along the top edge of the fabric around both layers and pin in place.

Sew a 1/8" seam along the inner edge of the tape and along the side and bottom edges of the pocket. Set aside for now.

To prepare the pattern piece for the outer shell and inner lining of the cozy, cut a piece of paper or tag board to 16"x 13 1/2".

Fold the paper in half lengthwise.

Lay the paper down with the folded edge to the left and the open ends to the right.

Measure and mark 6" down along the right side. Draw a curved line starting at the upper left corner down to the mark you just made on right (you can use a large round object to trace the curved line; I used a large pot cover).

Trim the through both layers along the curved line. Lay the pattern piece flat.

Pin the pattern piece onto the solid-colored quilted cotton. Trace the shape, and cut out the shape.

Lay the quilted cotton flat with the right side facing up. Cut a piece of the print cotton fabric to 8" x 14".

Place the print fabric on top of the quilted cotton (right side facing up) with the bottom edges aligned.

Center the print fabric and pin in place.

Align the embroidered pocket on top of the print fabric with the bottom edges aligned.

Add bias tape along the side edges of the pocket and print fabric (wrap the tape around all the layers) and pin in place.

Sew a 1/8" seam along the inner edges of the tape and along the bottom edge of the pocket.

Flip the front piece over and trim the print fabric and tape along the top edge of the front fabric.

Cut a piece of ribbon to 8" long. Form it into a loop, and pin it in place at the top center of the front of the front piece.

Use the pattern piece to cut the back fabric of the outer shell.

Align the back piece on top of the front piece, right sides together. Pin in place, and sew a 1/2" seam along the side and top edges only, leaving the bottom edge open.

Trim the seam allowance leaving about 1/8" remaining.

Turn the outer shell right side out.

To prepare the inner lining, cut two pieces of the print quilted cotton and assemble them just as you did for the outer shell.

This will include trimming the seam allowance after sewing.

Insert the outer shell inside the inner lining, right sides together. Align the side seams and the bottom edges together.

Pin in place and sew a 1/2" seam along the bottom edge of the fabric, leaving about 4" open at the back.

Turn the fabric right side out and insert the inner lining inside the outer shell.

Turn the fabric of the opening in 1/2" and sew the opening closed with needle and thread.
