Delightful Dala Horse

The colorful Dala horse is a wooden statuette of a horse representing the Swedish province of Dalarna, or Sweden as a whole. They are traditionally painted bright red with details and a harness in white, green, yellow and blue. The traditional pattern is painted free-hand by a "ripple" painter - a task that requires great skill and many years of practice. Lollie has a friend who not only paints Dala horses, but also does Finnish folk art painting and Rosemaling. Not wanting her friend, Makela, to end with with paint-splattered clothes, Lollie came up with the idea to make an apron for her to use for garment protection. With her Viking Designer SE machine, she stitched the vivid Swedish Dala Horse design across the front of a simple, black apron, and then personalized it with Makela's name. Other special details include its full lining and Lollie's name embroidered on the reverse side. The final results are striking with the well-embroidered design and bold colors!  It's not surprising that Makela loved the thoughtful gift. Wonderful work, Lollie!
