Snowflakes of Icy Lace Remember when the first snowflakes fell from the winter skies of your childhood? As kids, we'd run outside and raise our faces to the heavens, catching the tiny flakes on our tongues. Then we'd look to see the individual flakes that had fallen on our jacket sleeves. Fascinated, we'd peer at the detail of each flake until it melted away, and we wondered -- is it really true that no two are alike?
Today, snowflakes still fascinate us, and, wonderfully, we can capture their likeness in delicate, freestanding embroidery to hang in a window or a tree, or to trim linens and winterwear. Just embroider the design onto a piece of water-soluble stabilizer, then soak away. A beautiful, freestanding lace snowflake (that doesn't melt) will be your reward! When the weather is frightful outside, these lace snowflakes will keep your house cheery and bright.

Lacy Tree Skirt Freestanding lace wedge sections are arranged together to make a beautiful tree skirt in details of poinsettias, holly, or bells. For the sample to the right, we mixed and matched the different sections and used four different colors for a bright and fun decoration. You can also repeat the same section over and over, and use one or two colors. Whatever your preference, you'll be all set to create holiday magic around your little tree this year. The smaller design size will make a nifty little tree skirt approximately 17 inches in diameter; the larger design size will enlarge the skirt to almost 24 inches. Fourteen wedges make a complete circle.
