Australian Wildflowers

Australia is a magnificent country full of incredible natural wonders, including spectacular wildflower displays. Now, through the magic of embroidery, you can bring this stunning floral display into your home. Stitch brilliant wildflower designs onto garments and home decor items to create your own picturesque "landscape" of vivid blooms and fascinating foliage!

The Fringe Lily's petals appear to be fringed, a look created by a delicate collection of hairs that produce a halo effect around each flower. Although this plant hails from Western Australia, it is quite easy to grow in eastern parts of the country as well. On the right, the Cooktown Orchid is Queensland's floral emblem. The name refers to the northern Queensland town where Captain Cook had his ship repaired in 1770. The Cooktown Orchid is considered one of Australia's showiest orchids.

Waratahs are a little tricky to grow but are nonetheless popular ornamental plants in Australian gardens. They are the floral emblem of New South Wales. Sturt's Desert Rose is the floral emblem of Australia's Northern Territory, and has also been known as Darling River Rose, Cotton Rosebush, and Australian Cotton. Its natural habitat is stony or rocky slopes, or dry creek beds.

Many Eucalyptus trees (left) are known as gum trees because they exude large amounts of sap from any break in the bark. The flowers are distinctive, with lots of fluffy stamens that may be white, cream, yellow, pink, or red. Golden Wattle (right) is Australia's national flower. Its brilliant yellow, fragrant flowers make it a popular garden plant, and have been used in perfume making.

Around 150 species of Guinea Flowers (right) occur in Australia. Guinea Flowers are a genus of trees, shrubs, trailing shrubs, and climbers, and the five-petalled flowers of almost all species are varying shades of yellow.

It is moderately frost tolerant, and will bloom from winter through to early summer, depending on its location.
