Graceful Simplicity of Bamboo
The image of this light and airy, fast-growing "tree of grass" always reminds us of Asia, even though there are 1400 species of bamboo to be found in many other parts of the world. The legendary food of the Panda Bear isn't confined to China, nor tropical regions. Two species that were native to North America are known as canebrake and switch cane, but most of these were rooted out by farming. Three shades of green bring out the graceful leaves of this exotic plant, or try it in one color for tone-on-tone.

Simply Poppies
Golden blooms of exquisite beauty flutter gently in the breezes of a California spring. Prized for centuries by native populations, this wild poppy once completely covered western coastal hillsides,
and was declared California's state flower in 1903. Akin, is the European wild poppy, made famous by the World War I poem, "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae. Adopted as a memorial to those who died in wartime, the beautiful red poppy is a familiar emblem when Remembrance or Veteran's Days are observed in Canada, Europe, and the United States. Both can be recognized by their four fragile, almost translucent, vibrantly colored petals.

Three Cheers for Three Colors Each design uses three colors -- but you can also sew every one of these using a single thread color. The unique method of shading imparts an artful depth and dimension to your embroidery. These designs make outstanding tone-on-tone embellishments, too.
