Spring Fling with Stained Glass!

Drawing (literally) from the above scene, we've made squares, medallions, borders, and corners with the bright flowers and charming critters. Use these designs in coordination with the above project, or on their own! Add classic and colorful squares and medallions to tote bags, pillow shams, towels, and table linens. Stitch the borders onto the edges of tablecloths, skirts, and shirts. Tuck the corner onto wash cloths, linen napkins, and pockets of shirts and sweaters. Stained Glass Tulips

Tulips originally came from Turkey -- the word "tulip" actually evolved from the Persian word "dulband," which means "turban." But in the 1600s, tulipomania swept through The Netherlands, and the Dutch were frantic with desire for these flowers. Since that time tulips have been associated with The Netherlands. Seeing the tulip farms in the springtime is a wonderful event.

Stained Glass Pansies

The name "pansy" comes from the French word pensee, which means "thought." In late summer the petals become heavy on the flower's stem, and the flower head nods back and forth as though deep "in thought." Other names that this lovely flower has had include Stepmother, Little Flame, Humble Violet, and Jump Up and Kiss Me.

Stained Glass Crocuses

Crocuses are one of the first flowers to appear in late winter or early spring. They have a waxy layer of protection on their leaves and petals, and this prevents them from suffering or being damaged by frost. And, here's an interesting tidbit: a company that performs well after an economic downturn is called a "crocus," likening the company's survival to the flower's ability to survive (and even thrive) in the cooler temps of late winter.
