The word 'Orchid' is derived from the Greek god, Orchis, the son of a nymph and a satyr.
Orchis committed a sin during the celebratory feast of Bacchus, and was punished by
being torn to pieces by wild beasts.  Where his blood fell, a slender and modest plant
emerged.  This design features a colorful variety of plants, along with the word 'Orchids.'

The ghost orchid became famous when Susan Orlean's book, The Orchid Thief,
was published.  The story surrounds the orchid-poaching actions of Floridian
John Laroche, and Orlean's quest to find a ghost orchid. The book was later used

Orchids are ancient plants with finely honed survival skills.  They have survived
ice ages, predators, development, and poachers.  Orchids tend to have features
that resemble their pollinator's mate.  Some may look like a bumblebee, or a
moth.  As the pollinators examine orchids, pollen is transferred from plant to
plant, helping with orchid survival.
