Art from one culture often influences art from another, and in this way style and fashion is passed around the world. An example of this artistic admiration occurred in 17th- and 18th-century Europe, where a love for all things Chinese led to a new hybrid style of interior decorating, furniture, pottery, and textiles known as Chinoiserie. "Chinoiserie" is French for "Chinese-esque," and it was a way for Europeans to appreciate and to re-imagine Asian decorative art and culture.

We offer this week's new designs in the spirit of Chinoiserie, which is coming into fashion once again. Exquisite bird and floral panels echo the style and themes of Chinoiserie wallpaper, lotus blossoms are paired with kanji symbols in peaceful Asian-inspired designs, and brilliantly colored birds native to Asian countries are painted in calligraphy-style brushstroke stitches. Asian Inspirations

The Red Junglefowl resembles a rooster but is actually a tropical member of the pheasant family. These birds were first domesticated in Asia at least several thousand years ago.
