New this week St. Valentine's Day There are dozens of legends that surround the origin of Valentine's Day, the day we celebrate love. Here's one of our favorites: Centuries ago, Roman Emperor Claudius II decided that bachelors made better soldiers than married men. He issued a decree that young men should not marry, and instead become part of his growing army. A priest named Valentine rebelled against the decree, and performed marriages in secret. When his act was discovered he was jailed for his offense. Since that time, Valentine's Day has been a time to celebrate love and affection. This week the Embroidery Library is pleased to present exciting new designs to help you prepare for the upcoming holiday. You'll find a wonderful selection of quick-sewing hearts, lovely French Amour embellishments, plus an excellent selection of designs to celebrate friendship. Happy Valentine's Day, and enjoy the new designs!

In 1381 the great poet Chaucer wrote a love poem to celebrate the engagement between Richard II and Anne of Bohemia. In his poem 'The Parliament of Fowls,' Chaucer wrote 'For this was on St. Valentine's Day, When every fowl cometh there to choose his mate.' This design depicts Chaucer's beautiful poetry with two bluebirds sitting on a branch. The text below is from I Corinthians 13, which has much to say about love. Great for anniversary and wedding gifts!
