Coffee Talk!

NEW THIS WEEK - January 17th, 2007:

Coffee Talk!

Free Project Instructions!

Transform an old suitcoat into beautiful accessories for your home and wardrobe.

Coffee and tea -- hot beverages fundamental to life -- enrich the experience of a lazy, sunny morning, complement a meeting of good friends, bolster a drive to work, and refresh us at midday.

Designs this week pay tribute to that comforting cup of coffee or tea. Quirky caffeine aficionados "espresso" themselves in illustrations of the power of java -- perfect for shirts, totes, towels, and more.

Find your favorite coffee accessories in designs that depict an espresso machine, a French press, a tall Mocha, even an antique coffee grinder. Pour a steaming mug of your favorite brew, and watch a Dollar Delight line-art design stitch out
before you reach the bottom of the cup.

And if you prefer a light cup of tea to industrial-strength coffee, then climb aboard for a quick tour to check out a beautiful collection of teapots from China, Japan, England, and India.

Grab that cup o' coffee, a spot of tea, or toasty mug of cocoa, and enjoy the new designs this week.!

Espresso Machine
With a hiss and a cloud of steam, freshly brewed espresso pours into the waiting cup.
A barista (Italian bartender), "pulls" a shot of espresso from the machine, which, under high
pressure, forces very hot water through finely ground, dark roasted coffee beans. Invented in Milan,
Italy, the process achieves a thicker consistency than drip coffee, and is not for the faint-hearted. But the strong brew also holds its own as the coffee base for lattes, cappuccini, macchiati, and mochas.
Available in two sizes:
5.87"X7.08" and 4.86"X5.85"

Antique coffee grinder
Coffee like Great Grandma used to make!  This old coffee grinder was a prized "appliance" in pioneer kitchens of the 19th century. A sweet image in thread art that's just made to match treasured antiques.
Turn the handle on this old-fashioned grinder -- and sew it on towels, kitchen accessories, and wall art.
Available in two sizes:
8.48"X5.85" and 6.84"X4.72"

Mocha Magic
Add a volume of milk, a dab of chocolate, and a flourish of whipped cream --
it's coffee and dessert, all in one!  And super fun to sew on a shirt to wear to the coffee shop.
With this design on display, we'll never have to "order" our favorite drink.
Available in two sizes:
5.88"X8.11" and 4.87"X6.71"

Coffee Connoisseur
A coffee connoisseur can distinguish between thousands of blends
of coffees grown in 50 equatorial countries...and is very happy to taste each one.
Available in two sizes:
5.86"X6.54" and 4.81"X5.36"

French Press
Popularized by the French, and a favorite of coffee fanatics everywhere, this coffee brewing device captures more coffee flavor than traditional drip brewing, which traps essential oils in paper filters. Depending on the county one is in, this apparatus may also be known as a coffee plunger, press pot, or
cafetiļæ½re. The method involves a plunger, a screen, coarse-ground coffee, and boiling hot water.
The result is coffee that is stronger and thicker and has more sediment.
Available in two sizes:
5.87"X6.38" and 4.81"X5.23"

Tantalizing Teapots from Around the World

a tea ceremony, tea party, or even tea for two!  Quilt the collection into a wall hanging for a cozy kitchen. Sew your favorites on kitchen accessories or line a basket and add special teas for a
grand gift set. The possibilities are endless!

Chinese Teapot
China, the birthplace of tea, took the teapot from a simple brewing implement to a work of art. Inspired by the YiXing (pronounced ee-shing) teapots of old, this teapot design reflects the natural beauty of bamboo.

Special Request of the Week
Embroidery Library is always inspired by your design suggestions, and we thank you for sending
us tons of terrific ideas, which we regularly incorporate into the weekly design themes. As a way
to expand on designs for specific quests, this space is dedicated to the "Request of the Week."
Here is this week's request:

Seashore Story for the Nursery
Deb is part of a WAHM (Work At Home Moms) group that enjoys making items for children and families. "I have many customers who like to use ocean themes for their babies' rooms," she wrote. "An octopus applique would be great to put on bibs, hooded towels, burp cloths, even diapers."  This was such a good idea, we just swam with it! So here's Deb's octopus and a whole school of happy, friendly sea critters.

Deb says cloth diapers are "wonderful for the environment, economical, and healthy for baby."
Her work can be found on
www.madebymama.com under Deb's Diapers and Doodads.
