Where is that great trick for changing colors with Embird?
If you have Embird version 2003 (or a later version), you can load the colors from the color change sheet into a design with just a few steps. You'll need a .txt file of the printable color change sheet, give it the same name as the design file, and put both files in the same folder. We'll show you how it's done!
Go to the design on the website and click the "Color Change Sheet" link (you can also find a link to the color change sheets in your order history).
Click the "Printable without images" link. This is the color change sheet that is formatted properly for uploading into Embird. If you have a color change sheet that does not have a link that says "Printable without images," that means that a printable version for the sheet does not exist. See notes below for what to do when that occurs.
From your browsers toolbar, choose 'File' and 'Save as.' Click on the drop-down box for 'file type' and choose '.txt file.' Name the file the same name as the design. For example, this design is named 817191.dst, so I gave the color sheet this name: 817191.txt.
Put both the embroidery file and .txt file in the same folder.
Open Embird. In Manager mode, click on Options and make sure that "Support Palette Files" is checked. Direct Embird to the folder that contains the design and .txt file of the color change sheet.
Open the design, and the colors in the .txt file will be inserted into the design.
Troubleshooting tips:
If some colors are changed, but not all, look at the .txt file. Make sure that the words "Madeira Rayon" precede each thread number. Eliminate the pound sign (#).
Some color change sheets do not have numbers listed for black or white. For black, add the words "Madeira Rayon 1000" and for white, add the words "Madeira Rayon 1001." Save the .txt file, and open the design again.
Designs that have more than 50 color changes do not have printable color change sheets. For those, you can build a .txt file with any word or text program. The formula is this: cc1: "color" "Madeira Rayon" "color number" For example, if the first color on the color change sheet was black, you would type: cc1: Black Madeira Rayon 1000 After you have a .txt file with that information, you can place it in the folder with the design, and open Embird. This is only for designs that do not have printable versions of color change sheets.
