Heat-Set Crystals

Heat-Set Crystals

Embellishing with
hot-fix jewels

You'll need:

Place the correct sized tip on your tool and plug in your tool to heat it up.

While the tool is heating, take out your crystals and turn them all right side up.

Crystals are available at many craft stores, and numerous on-line sources, and they are available in different dimensions, from 2 mm to 7 mm. Embroidery Library designs have running-stitch rings that are sized for 5 mm crystals, because that appears to be the most popular size.

If you have crystals that are 6 or 7 mm, you can still use them in the 5 mm rings. If you enjoy using smaller crystals, 3 and 4 mm crystals will also work well within the
5 mm rings.

Once the tool is heated, touch the tip over a jewel and lift the jewel off the work surface.

Watch the back of the jewel while it is on the wand. When the glue on the jewel gets shiny, it is ready to place on your design.

Carefully place the jewel on the fabric, with the wand perpendicular to the fabric, and then lift the wand away.

If a jewel becomes stuck in the wand, insert a pin into the slot in the tip to dislodge the jewel.

Tip: If a jewel falls out of your wand, allow it to cool, glue-side up. It can be reheated and used again.
