Baby Burp Cloth
What could be a prettier picture on Mom's shoulder than a new baby and this cute and stylish burping cloth? And, when friends come to call and want to hold the baby, they'll appreciate its charm as a thoughtful way to avoid mishaps as well.
Supplies needed:
Prefolded diaper. We used the Gerber brand.
1/4 yard of very cute baby fabric to coordinate with the embroidery design
Variegated embroidery thread. We used Sulky #2241
Embroidery design, Rubber Duck.
Instructions:
Center your ducky embroidery design on one half of the padded area of the diaper and sew out the embroidery.
There are two lines of stitching that run along each side of the thick layers of the diaper. Fold the outer long edges to meet the stitching and baste the edges down with white thread. Next use the variegated thread with a decorative stitch to further secure the edges and create decorative touch.
Measure the width of the folded diaper and add an inch for seam allowances. On the backside of the coordinating fabric, trace two rectangles that are the width of the diaper plus the inch for seam allowances, and 5" high.
Cut out these rectangles to cover the ends of the burp cloth. Fold the rectangles in half lengthwise, with right sides together. With a 3/8" seam allowance, stitch the short ends together. Clip the corners and turn right side out. Press the raw edges to the inside 1/2 inch.
Bring the fabric over the ends of the cloth and secure with a straight stitch through all layers.
