Project Needs & Notes

- 1/2 yard faux fur fabric (for body and ears)
- Small piece of faux fur fabric (for belly)
- Small piece of craft felt or wool felt (for center of ears)
- Medium-weight cutaway stabilizer
- Heavy-weight water-soluble stabilizer (such as Sulky Ultra Solvy)
- Polyester fiberfill
- Air-erase pen
- Needle and thread for some hand sewing
- Scotch tape

Special Notes:
When choosing faux fur fabric, pick a fabric with shorter fur. The fur used in this tutorial is about 1/2" in length. Longer furs might cause the embroidery to sink too far into the fabric.

Finished Sizes:
Extra Large: 12 3/4" x 17 3/4"
Large: 11" x 15 1/2"
Medium: 8 3/4" x 12 1/4"
Small: 5 1/2" x 7 3/4"

Christmas Gift Guide Lookbook

To get started, choose which size teddy bear you'd like to make and print the
PDF of the pattern pieces (there are different patterns for each of the sizes: extra large, large, medium, small). For each size, there are seven pattern pieces that will print on seven pieces of 8 1/2" x 11" paper.

The seven pattern pieces are the following:
- Four pieces for the body
- One piece for the ears
- One piece for the inner ears
- One piece for the belly

A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software.
If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is
a free program to use.

Center
the template inside the head section as shown.

Mark the center point and horizontal and vertical axis lines.

Remove the template. Place the faux fur fabric on top of the cutaway stabilizer, and add a piece of heavy-weight water-soluble stabilizer as a topping.

This topping will keep the embroidery from sinking into the faux fur fabric.

Hoop all three layers together, aligning the marks on the hoop with the marks on the fabric.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design.

Move the hoop so that the needle is directly aligned with the center point on the fabric.

Embroider the design.

Place the ears on top of the embroidered front piece, right sides facing down.

The raw bottom edges of the ears should extend out 1/4" past the outer edges of the fabric.

Angle the ears out from the eyes so the top center of the ears aligns with the eyes. Pin in place.

Use the body pattern piece to cut out a second piece of the faux fur.

Align this piece on top of the front/ear section, right sides together, and pin in place.

Sew a 1/2" seam along the outer edges of the fabric. Leave one side in-between one of the top and bottom legs open for turning.
