Fringe Throw Pillow

|
|
Add a bit of rustic flair to your home with a fringe
throw pillow. Use varying colors and
fabrics to coordinate with each season or holiday!
We used the
Autumn Sunset Silhouettes designs; the
Leafy Wildlife designs would also make a great
choice.
However, you can use any
embroidery designs you'd like -- mix and match
fabrics and designs to make a pillow that is unique as
you!
Read below for these free project instructions!

|
Supplies Needed:
**1/2
yards fabric (we used
chenille home decor fabric)
**Medium weight cutaway
stabilizer
**Water soluble stabilizer (for
topping, we prefer Sulky
Super Solvy or Sulky Solvy)
**Temporary spray adhesive
**Air-erase pen (or other
marking tool)
**Polyester fiberfill |
|

|
|
Cut a piece of fabric 18 inches
by 18 inches. Using an air-erase pen
(or other marking tool), measure and
mark the center of each side of the
fabric. Draw lines connecting the
marks - where the lines meet is the
exact center of the fabric. |
|

|
Create
a paper template of the design
by printing it at full size
using embroidery software.
If you don't have embroidery
software, you can cut a piece of
paper the shape and dimensions of
the design to help with placement
and centering. Poke a hole in the
center of the template and align
it with the center point on the
fabric. Make sure the design
fits well within the shape.
There should be at least 5
inches of space between the
outer edges of the hoop and the
edges of the fabric.
|
|
 |
Remove the
template. Spray a piece of
medium-weight cutaway stabilizer
with temporary adhesive and
smooth the fabric on top. We
added one piece of water soluble
stabilizer (we prefer Sulky
Super Solvy
or Sulky Solvy) on top of the fabric
as well. This helps prevent the
stitches from sinking into the
plush chenille fabric. Hoop all three
layers together by aligning the
marks on the hoop with the lines on
the fabric. Attach the hoop to the
machine and load the design. Move
the hoop so that the needle is
aligned with the center point on the
fabric and embroider the design.
|
|

|
|
After the design
has finished embroidering, tear
off the water-soluble stabilizer
and trim away the cutaway
stabilizer on the back of the
embroidery. |
|

|
|
Now, measure
and mark out four inches from the
top and bottom edges of the design.
Also, measure and mark out 5 inches
from the side edges of the
design. Draw lines that are
perpendicular to the design at these
marks. Then, trim the fabric along
the lines. |
|

|
Lay the embroidered piece on top of
another piece of fabric, wrong sides
together, and pin in place with the
pins about 1 1/2 inches from the edges
of the fabric. Measure and
mark in one inch around the entire
outer edge of the fabric. Draw lines
to connect the marks. Following the
lines you just drew, sew a seam
along the top edge, one of the side
edges, and the bottom edge only -
leave one side edge open.
|
|

|
|
Stuff the pillow
with fiberfill about 3/4 full,
through the open end. Then,
following the drawn line, sew
the open end about 3/4 inch
closed. Stuff the pillow
completely full and then stitch
the remainder of the opening
closed. |
|

|
|
Using
a small scissors or seam ripper,
gently fringe the outer seam
allowances (on both layers of
fabric) by removing the loose
threads and fluffing the remaining
threads. Trim any uneven threads, and
your pillow is complete! |
