Supplies Needed:

**1/2 yard solid colored
   canvas for pockets

**2/3 yard patterned canvas

**1 package bias tape

**Pants hanger

**Medium-weight
  cutaway stabilizer

**Temporary spray adhesive

**Air-erase pen or
  dressmaker's pencil

Designs used:

Sledding Sunbonnet Sue - (Large)
Sledding Fisherman Fred - (Large)

Project Tip:
We used a 9 inch-wide wooden coat hanger. If yours is a different size, you may want to adjust the fabric measurements accordingly.

Finished Size:
9 inches wide by 21 inches high

For the pockets, using an air-erase pen or dressmaker's pencil, mark two rectangles on the canvas, each 9 1/2 inches high by 12 inches wide.

Create a paper template of the designs by printing them at full size using embroidery software. If you don't have embroidery software, you can cut a piece of paper the shape and dimensions of the designs to help with placement and centering.

For each pocket, lay the template on the fabric where you want the embroidery to be. Poke a hole in the center of the template and mark the center point. Mark the horizontal and vertical axis lines as well.

For each pocket: Spray a piece of medium-weight cutaway stabilizer with temporary spray adhesive, and smooth the fabric on top. Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together by aligning the marks on the hoop with the lines on the fabric. Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design. Move the hoop so that the needle is directly over the center point on the fabric. Embroider the design.

Trim the excess stabilizer from the back of each embroidery design.

Cut out each rectangle using the lines you marked earlier.

Cut a length of bias tape a bit longer than the long edge of each pocket. Wrap the bias tape around the top edge of each pocket.

Pin the bias tape in place.

Stitch the bias tape in place along the top of each pocket.

Trim the bias tape at each end so it's flush with the pocket fabric.

At the bottom corners of each pocket, make a pair of marks 1 inch and 1 1/2 inches in along the bottom edge.

At the 1 inch mark, fold the fabric to the front and press. At the 1 1/2 inch mark, fold the fabric toward the back and press.

Pin the pleat in place. Repeat for each bottom corner.

Stitch just under 1/2 inch away from the bottom edge of each pocket to hold the pleats in place.

Cut two rectangles out of the patterned fabric, 10 inches wide by 22 inches high.

If your hanger is more or less than 9 inches wide, you may want to adjust the width measurement. If you want to add more than two pockets, make it longer.

At the top end of the fabric, mark the center point, then mark 2 inches to each side of this center point. Stitch the two pieces together at the top, leaving a 4 inch gap in the middle, between the marks. You may want to make this gap larger or smaller, depending on the hanger you use.

Press the top seam open.

On the right side, stitch 1/4 inch from each side of the seam, to hold the seam allowance in place.

To attach the pockets, draw a line 1 inch from the bottom of the front piece of patterned fabric. Align the stitching across the bottom of the pocket with this line, with the pocket upside-down and right sides facing. Stitch in place.

Flip the pocket up to its correct position.

Repeat for the second pocket, aligning the stitching with a line drawn 11 inches from the bottom of the patterned rectangle.

Align the sides of each pocket with the sides of the larger fabric rectangles, and pin in place.

Stitch 1/4 inch from the edge on each side to hold the pockets in place.

On both long sides, mark 3 1/2 inches to each side of the top seam, for a span of 7 inches. Press under 1/2 inch along each span and pin in place.

Stitch 1/4 inch from the folded edge, along each 7 inch span.

Lay the entire organizer right sides together. Pin at the sides, making sure to keep pockets free of the seam. Stitch 1/2 inch from each side, from the bottom to where the folded-under top segment begins.

Turn the organizer right side out and press the side seams. Insert the hanger through the bottom, poking the metal hook through the gap at the top.

To finish the bottom edge, fold the raw edges under 1/2 inch. Pin in place and stitch close to the edge.

Your hanger is finished! Hang it in a coat closet or on a door to catch everyone's hats, mittens, and more.
