It's just heavenly!
Beautiful sections of freestanding
lace make this tree skirt a real standout!
Make it in a mix of cheerful holiday
colors or the single color of your choice. |

Instructions:
Embroider 14 individual
section pieces in the color and design combination of
your choice. Use the same embroidery thread in the
bobbin as you do in the top thread. This way, the
lace will be reversible.
Trim the excess WSS away
from the edges of each piece.
Do not soak yet. The pieces are easier to handle and sew together with
the stabilizer still in them. |
|
 |
|
Along the long sides of each
embroidered section,
there are stitching edges. Join the pieces
together by overlapping the stitching edges, and sew the
pieces together. I used a straight stitch, but a zigzag stitch would also work well.
Continue joining pieces together until
you have almost completed the circle. Leave the last
edge open so you can place the skirt around the bottom
of a small tree. |
|
 |
|
When you have completed the circle of
sections. Soak the entire piece in water to
remove the remaining stabilizer. Blot it on a
white towel, and allow to dry flat. |
|
 |
|
Wrap the skirt around the base of
your tree, and admire your handiwork. The lace
really shows up well over this white tablecloth.
You may want to take into account the color of your
table, or space where the skirt will be when you decide
what color or colors you want to make your skirt. |

A note
about water-soluble stabilizers and needles:
There are many, many different brands of water-soluble
stabilizer available. Some are thin and light, some are
fibrous, and some are thick and heavy. It can be
confusing to pick the right one for your lace project.
We've digitized and stitched thousands of freestanding
lace designs, and have consistently excellent results
with Sulky Ultra Solvy (the heavy weight water-soluble
stabilizer by Sulky) and Vilene, a fibrous water-soluble
stabilizer. We order Vilene from
www.pointetopointe.com.
Use a sharp needle (as opposed to an embroidery needle)
when embroidering onto water-soluble stabilizer -
especially if using the "plastic-looking" kind (such as
Sulky Ultra Solvy). An embroidery needle has a larger
point, which makes larger holes in the water-soluble
stabilizer, leading to tearing and misalignment.
