Chinoiserie Fashion & Home Decor - New Today!

In the 17th century, Chinese artwork was incredibly popular throughout Europe. Especially fashionable in decorative arts, such as paintings, porcelain, tapestry, and furniture, this blend of Chinese and European styles became known as Chinoiserie, a French term meaning "Chinese-esque."

At Embroidery Library, we love to bring historical art styles to the modern embroidery machine, and we've heard that our customers love it too. Suzani, Swedish, Russian, Polish, and Norwegian folk flowers, damask, Blue Willow, Japanese sashiko -- all of these styles are examples of traditional needlework and art that embroiderers can use to embellish garments and home decor items to celebrate the history of our craft.
This week, the beautiful style of Chinoiserie comes to you. Marked by fanciful birds and blossoms, traditional Chinese and Asian elements, graceful shapes, curving lines, and delicate colors, these new designs are a hot and historical addition to your wardrobe and home decor.

Bird and flower features bloom brightly on tote bags and linens. A coordinating border and corner can be stitched in different colors to match your personal preference and taste.
A contemporary twist on classic Chinoiserie includes brightly-colored birds, striking against sketched-in branches. These brilliant-but-breezy designs are stunning as focal points to quilt blocks, linen towels, canvas tote bags, pillow shams, and table linens, too.

A coordinating border lets you repeat the contemporary Chinoiserie theme along mantle and table runners, placemats, quilts, and duvets. Tuck the matching corner onto napkin corners or pockets of sweaters and jackets!

Elongated scenes as panels are a traditional motif in Asian decor. Choose from two different styles. A series of three panels, featuring lotus flowers, cherry blossoms, and bamboo, are stitched in black and gold to emulate the look of lacquer. A series of four panels, highlighting pagodas and cranes, are stitched in pine green and gold, reminiscent of calligraphy.

Stitch these panels and frame to bring the Asian-inspired Chinoiserie style to your home. Or, make a set of pillow covers!
