Supplies Needed:
**1/4 yard
canvas, denim, or
twill (we used print canvas)
**1/4
yard nylon (we used rip
stop nylon)
**Medium weight cutaway
stabilizer
**Temporary spray adhesive
**Air-erase pen (or other
marking tool)
**7 inch
all-purpose zipper
**1/2 yard
(18 inches) - one
inch wide strapping
**One side-lock closure (sized
for one inch wide strapping)

To begin, lets
prepare the front of the pouch
for embroidery.
Draw an 8 inch by 8 inch square
on the canvas. Be sure to leave
a few inches of excess fabric
around the shape for hooping. |
With an air-erase pen (or other
marking tool), mark the center
on each side of the square by
measuring and dividing by two. |

Draw lines to connect the center
marks. Where the lines meet is
the center of the square. These
lines will also be used for
hooping.
If
you have embroidery software,
print a template of the design to use for
placement. If you don't have
embroidery software, you can cut
a piece of paper the shape and
dimensions of the design to help
with placement and centering.
Poke a hole in the center of the
template and align it with the
center point on the fabric.
Make sure the design fits well
within the shape. There should
be at least one inch of space
between the edges of the design
and the outer edges of the
shape.

Remove the template. Spray a
piece of cutaway stabilizer with
temporary adhesive and smooth
the fabric on top. Hoop the
fabric and stabilizer together
by aligning the marks on the
hoop with the lines on the
fabric. Attach the hoop to the
machine and load the
design. Move the hoop so that
the needle is directly over the
center point on the fabric.
Embroider the design. |

When the design has finished,
trim away the excess stabilizer
on the back of the embroidery. |

To prepare the back of the
pouch, cut another piece of
canvas 8 inches by 8 inches.
Align the front embroidered
piece and the back piece
together with the right sides
facing and pin in place. |

Sew a 1/4 inch seam along the
sides and bottom only, leave the
top open. |

Turn the fabric right side out.
Turn the top edge of the fabric
in 1/4 inch and press in place
with an iron. |

To prepare the inner lining, cut
two pieces of the nylon 8 inches
by 8 inches. Align the pieces
together, right sides facing,
and pin in place. Sew a 1/4 inch
seam along the bottom and two
sides only. Leave one side
open as this will be the top of
the lining. |

Leave
the lining turned wrong side
out. Turn the top edge over 1/4
inch and press in place using a
pressing cloth or towel, with
the iron on a low setting. |

Insert the inner lining into the
assembled front and back piece.
Align the top folded edges
together and pin in place about
1 1/2 inches down from the top
edge. |

Now, lets prepare the straps.
Cut a piece of the strapping 10
inches long and thread it
through one end of the side-lock
closure. |

Fold the end of the strapping
over 1/2 inch and align the
folded end with the strapping
about 1 1/2 inches from the
closure and pin in place. |

Cut another piece of strapping 6
1/2 inches long and then thread
the strapping through the
opposite end of the
closure. Fold the end of the
strapping over 1/2 inch, align
the folded end with the
strapping about 1 1/2 inch from
the closure and pin in place. |

Sew the strapping together on
both ends of the closure by
sewing a 1 inch square starting
at the folded edge. |

Align the ends of the straps
together to form a loop. With
the closure facing up, insert
the ends of the straps in
between the two layers of the
pouch at the center of the back
of the pouch. Insert the ends of
the straps about 1 1/2 inches
into the pouch and pin in place. |

Now we will add the zipper.
Unzip the zipper and insert it
between the layers on both sides
of the top edge of the
pouch. Place the zipper on the
inside of the strap so that it
will align with the other side
of the zipper properly. Pin in
place. |

Using a zipper foot, sew a 1/4
inch seam along the edge of the
zipper on both sides of the
pouch. This will attach the
zipper and the straps to the
pouch and will also finish the
top edge of the pouch. |
