First, choose your cardstock.  You'll find a wide variety of colors and styles at craft or party supply stores.  Some cards will have pre-cut windows for the embroidery to show through.

Or, make your own cards with a cutting mat, ruler, utility knife, and....

...a colorful variety of cardstock and
decorative paper.  Art and craft supply stores have a large range of decorative paper, or you may wish to use gift wrapping paper to accentuate your cards.

Paper supply stores and film processing stores have cards that allow inserts for photos.  Sew designs on fun fabric and insert into the cards
for a holiday greeting.

In a matter of minutes you have a holiday card with a unique, personal touch.

Making your own cards allows you to shape the card to match the sewn design's dimensions.  Measure the size of your sew out.  Using a cutting mat and utility knife, cut a hole from a card that is slightly larger than your sewout.

Affix the sewout to the card using tape or glue.

If you wish, decorate the card by adding borders of patterned paper.  Gift wrap can also be used.

The inside of the card will show the backside of the embroidery.  Cover the backside with gift wrap or decorative paper.

Take a look at some of the cards that we made.  This card features the Renaissance Snowflake sewn on blue and white "frosty" fabric.  Tan Raffia, tied at each corner, frames the snowflake, adding dimension and depth.

Father Deer is sewn on a deep green, cotton fabric.  This colorful knit contrasts wonderfully with the rich wine of the card.  We had decorative paper that was covered with peppermint swirls. We cut the shapes from the paper and affixed them to the card with glue, adding more color and dimension to an already unique and interesting card.  White Raffia was added to the bottom peppermint candies to serve as cellophane wrapping.

A giant candy cane leaps from white, frosty fabric and deep green cardstock.  Red and white ribbon twist down the side of the card, adding a colorful, decorative border.

This Valentine is made with the Stuck On You design from the Valentine's Day Cards department.  Iridescent hearts, purchased in the scrapbooking section of a craft store, are used to decorate the outside of the card.
