When you download a bottle apron design, you'll find three files. Two of the files are marked with a "_DL" -- that stands for "dieline."

We'll use the dieline files to cut the fabric and stabilizer to the shape for the bottle aprons.

Print the dielines from your embroidery software.

Spray a piece of medium-weight cutaway stabilizer with temporary adhesive.

Smooth the fabric for the bottle apron on top.

Place the printed dieline on top of the fabric and stabilizer.

You can use a bit of temporary adhesive to keep the paper in place for the next step.

Cut out the shape.

Do this for the front dieline, and the back dieline, too.

If you don't have embroidery software to print the dielines, then you can embroider the dielines onto fabric and stabilizer.

Spray a piece of medium-weight cutaway stabilizer with temporary adhesive.

Smooth the fabric for the apron on top.

Hoop both together firmly.

Load the dieline for the front of the bottle apron to your machine, and embroider the dieline.

Then, cut out the shape.

Do this for the front dieline, and the back dieline, too.

Now that the fabric pieces are cut to the right shape, it's time to embroider the bottle apron.

Hoop a piece of tear-away stabilizer.

Load the full embroidery file to your machine -- that's the file that is named only with an "X" followed by 4 numbers.

Embroider the design. The first thing to sew will be another dieline. This traces the area on the stabilizer where we'll place the fabric for the front of the bottle apron.

Spray the backside of the front fabric and stabilizer piece with temporary adhesive.

Place that on the stabilizer, right in the shape from the dieline.

Continue embroidering the design. The next thing to sew will be a tack down stitch. This stitch binds the fabric to the stabilizer so it won't wiggle or shift during the rest of the embroidery.

Other elements of the design will sew, too.

On the color change sheet you'll see a note that says "back piece tack down." When you get to this step, stop the machine and remove the hoop.

Spray the backside of the back fabric and stabilizer piece with a bit of temporary adhesive.

Place that on the back of the embroidery.

For the remaining steps, the stitching will be seen from both sides of the bottle apron. We'll want our bobbin thread to match the top.

Wind a bobbin with the same thread that you're using in the top.

Attach the hoop to the machine and finish embroidering the design. The remaining steps are a tack down stitch, a satin stitch border, and satin stitch buttonholes for the ribbon ties.

When the design has finished, unhoop the stabilizer and gently tear the excess away.

Using a craft knife, cut through the buttonholes.

Thread a large-eye needle with ribbon and make the ribbon ties.

Start on the apron's left, and thread the lower hole, front to back. Then bring the ribbon out of the upper left hole and across to the upper right hole, leaving about 5 inches for the neck of the bottle. Then bring the ribbon down to the lower right hole, back to front.

It's time to dress up the bottle! Leave enough ribbon on the sides to tie around the bottle.

You can also use coordinating borders to make a matching dish towel!
