Supplies:

20" x 14.5" of fabric for each bag
26" of rope or ribbon
2 1/2 inch wide ribbon, cut to desired length
Tearaway stabilizer
Spray adhesive

Begin with a 20" x 14.5" piece of fabric. Embroider the design - we used tearaway stabilizer because of the heavier nylon fabric we selected. When using thinner fabrics, choose cutaway stabilizer.

Cut the fabric in a Y-shape. Having extra fabric at the top allows a nice pleat when tying at the bottle's neck.

Cut two pieces of fabric using the template pictured at the left.

Place one template on top of the other with the two right sides together. If you want to line the bag with a contrasting color, do so now.

Sew a seam on the bottom and the two sides, leaving top open. You should use a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

Turn inside out

After sewing the two templates together, turn them inside out so that the stitched seam is concealed. Next, hem the top of the bag.

Many wine bags are sealed with rope or ribbon. Approximately 26" will be enough to wrap around the bottle and tie in a bow.

To attach the rope, mark a spot approximately 3" down from the top edge of the bag, directly in the center.

Tack the rope to the bag on the spot that you marked. Make sure you go all the way through the rope. This stitch is what keeps it in place. Insert bottle of wine and tie. Voila!
