Apron
An
adjustable apron is great for anyone who
loves to cook, and the fire-breathing
dragon featured on the front will let
folks know that cooking with fire is the
only way to go!

Supplies Needed:
-
1 yard of light-weight denim fabric
-
Embroidery Designs:
Fire-Breathing Dragon
-
Tube turner or wooden dowel
Cut a rectangle from your
fabric that is 34" long by 27" wide. Center your embroidery 14" from the top end
of the rectangle, and sew out the dragon
with the lettering centered below it.
Next,
find the top center of the apron and measure
7" to each side of center; mark the
measurement. |
Measure 14" down from
the top on each side of the fabric, and
make a mark. Connect the top marks
to the side marks with a gentle curve
and cut out the "arm holes" of the
apron. |
From the remaining fabric, cut 2 1/2"
wide strips to equal 120" in total, and
connect the strips into one long strip. |
Fold the
strip lengthwise, with the right sides
together and stitch the entire length with a
3/8"
seam allowance to form a tube. |
Stitch one end of the tube
closed and trim the corners.
If you have a tube-turning tool,
use it to turn the tube right side
out. As an alternative, I find a
wooden dowel works just as well to turn
tubes. Use the dowel
by positioning it against the closed end and
begin pulling the
body of the tube over it. Push
it along until you have turned the entire
length right side out. |
Press the long tube and set it
aside. |
Now stitch the hems. The
top hem is 1 1/2".
The bottom hem is 1" and the
straight side hems are 1/2". |
Next,
stitch along the armholes to create
the casings. The casings should be 1
1/2"
wide. |
Pick up
the long tube, and
determine the center of the length. This is the part that goes around
the neck of the wearer. Feed
each end down through each casing as
shown.
Finish the ends of the ties
by folding over and stitching. |
