Dog Bandana & Collar

Dog Bandana & Collar

Whether they are of the purest breeding or of mixed lineage, our pets are a big part of our families. We love them and care for them, and in return they give
us their undying love and companionship. They greet us at the door with tails wagging, always wanting to be at our side, and they never hold a grudge.

When you sew your projects, remember the furry ones in your life.

Supplies needed:

  • Dog collar, the correct size for your dog. Use the kind that is a single thickness of webbing.

  • A fat quarter of fabric of your choice.

  • Air erase or wash-out marking pen

  • Stabilizer--medium- to heavy-weight cut-away for the collar and medium-weight tear-away for the bandana.

  • Embroidery designs

Instructions:

Note: the collar and bandana are for a medium-large sized dog. You may need to adjust measure-ments to accommodate the neck size of a smaller or larger dog.

Embroidering on a dog collar

Measure the length of your dog collar between the "D" ring and the first hole. Find the center between those two points; then find the center of the collar width. (Our collar is 13.5" long by 1" wide.) Mark the center point with an air erase pen.

Spray your stabilizer with adhesive and adhere the collar to the stabilizer. Make sure that the marked point is centered.

Hoop the stabilizer and collar together in the hoop. Make sure that the collar is placed perfectly horizontal in the hoop when it is placed into the machine so that your letters will sew out straight on the collar. Move your needle to the center point mark on the collar.  (Using a fix/baste before sewing the embroidery will help you to make sure that your collar is oriented correctly.)  Sew the embroidery out.

Doggie Bandana

Sew out your doggie design on
the fabric.  The design should be just below center on the fat quarter.

Measure the collar between the "D" ring and the first hole.  This will be the width of the bandana.   Make a mark 7 inches up from the top of the embroidery, then mark a line, centered over the embroidery that is the same length as the collar measurement.  Draw a 4-inch line down from each end of the top line.  Now, mark a dot about 3 inches down from the center-bottom of the embroidery.  Connect the bottom of the 4-inch lines to the point below the embroidery to complete your trapezoid.  Make sure that there is enough room between the edge and the embroidery  for you to hem the bandana.

Cut out the bandana along your marked lines.

Hem the 4-inch sides and down to the point, then make the sleeve for the collar to go through.

Slide this  bandana on the collar of a friend and let him strut his stuff on a walk around the block.
