A little bag with personalized style!
Just one letter says it all! Monogramming is HOT!
And you will look so spiffy and stylish with this little handbag monogrammed
just for you. We used a large quilt label design as the edging
embroidery and placed a script letter in the center to create this
bold look. No one would even guess that this is a quilting
design, unless you tell them! |

Instructions:
Mark your design placement and
sew out the label and monogram embroidery on the outer
fabric. Keep in mind when you embroider that you
will need to leave at least an inch on the sides and bottom
and 4 inches at the top. And, you will also be cutting
another piece (the back piece) from this fabric. |
After you are finished embroidering,
measure out 1" from the outer edges of the design's sides and bottom, and mark lines.
From the top edge of the embroidery, measure up 1/2" and make a small
cross mark at each of the side vertical
lines.
From the top center of the embroidery,
measure up 3 1/2" and make a small mark.
From that mark, draw lines to meet the small marks you made on the vertical
side lines. This will create a
house-shaped form that will be the front of your purse.

Cut out the "house" and an
additional 9" by 6-1/2"
rectangle from the outer fabric for the back of the
purse.
From the lining
fabric, cut out two 9" by 6-1/2"
rectangles and a triangle. Use the top of the
house-shaped piece as a pattern to make the triangle
from the lining. Extend the bottom of the lining
triangle by 1/2",
so that the lining pieces will overlap in a later step.
Cut 2 pieces of the batting. Use the house piece
as the template for one, and make the other 6" by 9". |

Baste the welting along
the outer edge of the house-shaped piece using a zipper
foot. Where the pieces join, overlap the ends and
pull the ends into the 1/2"
seam allowance |

Place the 6" by 9" piece
of batting on the wrong side of the rectangle of outer
back fabric. Fold the excess 1/2"
of fabric over the batting and press to crease the
fabric.
Put the other batting pieces on the wrong side of the
house-shaped piece. |

Lay the lining triangle
over the top portion of the house-shaped piece. Use a
zipper foot to stitch the triangle to the roof of the
house-shaped piece. Do not go down the sides at
all. |
Now place the outer back
piece over the bottom portion of the house-shaped front piece
with the right sides together. The folded edge
needs to be at the top. Stitch around the sides
and bottom of the back piece. Do not sew over the
top lining.
Clip
the corners to eliminate bulk. |
Turn the purse right side out, and
tuck the lining section into the inside of the purse.
Braid the cord until you have about
15" of braided strapping. At the ends, lay the
cords side by side so that they are as flat as possible
for sewing. Place each end to the inside of the purse
near a side seam and stitch in place. |
Place the remaining lining pieces
right sides together, and stitch the short sides
and one long side together to form the remaining lining
of the purse. Fold 1" of the raw top edge to the
outside of the lining and press in place. |
Slip the lining into the bag and
stitch in place along the top edge of the back of
the bag as well as the overlapping edge of the triangle of lining.
Bring the top of the house-shaped piece over to
the back of the purse to determine the placement for the
frog closure. Stitch one side of the closure to
the triangle-shaped flap and the other side to the purse
back so that they meet nicely, and the purse can be
closed. |
