Soft Rag Doll (Boy)

Free project instructions to make a soft rag doll (boy)!

Soft rag dolls are an absolutely adorable sewing project, and with a sweet embroidered face they can be made with facial styles and expressions you love!

Three styles of boy doll face designs and three different types of expressions give an awesome variety of doll possibilities. Choose your favorite size and doll
face, then create a precious gift for a loved one or a homemade collectible.

Looking to personalize the rag doll even more? The extra-large and large doll patterns can fit into infant clothes, too.

Supplies Needed:

**Cotton fabric
  (I used 100% cotton flannel)

**Medium weight cutaway

  stabilizer

**Temporary spray adhesive

**Air-erase pen or
  dressmaker's pencil
  (for marking and placement)

Design Used:
For my rag doll I used the large size of the Edward (Looking Forward) design. You can find all of the boy doll faces right here. To find the complete collection of both boy and girl doll faces in a variety of styles and expressions, click here.

Special Project Notes:
When sewing the extra large and large doll patterns, use a 1/2" seam. When sewing the medium and small patterns use a 1/4" seam. I am using the large pattern which is sized to fit the 5" x 7" size designs.

The extra large and large dolls can be dressed in infant sized clothing. The extra large doll fits into 0 - 3 month clothing and the large doll fits into newborn sizes.  All clothing is sized a bit different, so I recommend trying the clothes on the doll before purchasing them.

Finished Size:
Extra large pattern (fits 6" x 10" size designs): 19" high
Large pattern (fits 5" x 7" size designs): 16 1/2" high
Medium pattern (fits 4" x 4" designs): 13" high
Small pattern (fits 2.5" x 2.5" designs): 8 1/4" high

To create the hair, decide how long you would like the hair be and then loop the yarn back and forth from side to side. Start with smaller lengths (I made mine about 5" long) then gradually make the loops longer as you go (I made the longest loops about 8" long). Wrap a small piece of yarn in the center of the loops and tie it with a knot.

Position the center knot of the hair at the top center of the head at the seam. Hand sew it in place with needle and thread. You can also stitch a few of the loops in place at the side of the head to help keep the hair in place.

Make your brand new pal an adorable girl doll friend for a matched pair of the sweet soft rag dolls. Four different sets of girl face designs are available in four different styles (realistic, cartoon, Kewpie, and primitive) and seven different expressions -- an incredible variety!
