Project Needs & Notes:

- Blank hand towel
- Ruler
- Air-erase pen for marking
- Medium-weight (2.5 ounce) cutaway stabilizer
- Scissors
- Sturdy cotton fabric, like twill, denim, or
  lightweight canvas
- Print quilter's cotton

Sizing Notes:
For a hand towel, cut two pieces of quilter's cotton to 16" x 9".
For a bath towel, cut two pieces of quilter's cotton to 28" x 9".

Draw a 5" by 5" square on a piece of sturdy cotton fabric.

Templates are printouts of embroidery designs, and they are excellent tools for planning where to stitch.

Open the embroidery designs in embroidery software and print them to make templates. If you don't have software, try Wilcom's TrueSizer, a free program.

Center the template in the square. Mark the center point and the horizontal and vertical axis lines.

Hoop the fabric with a piece of cutaway stabilizer, lining up the marks on the fabric with the marks on the hoop.

Attach the hoop to the machine, and load the design.

Move the hoop so the needle is right over the center point.

Embroider the design.

After embroidering, cut out the shape.

Leave the stabilizer in place on the back to help give the fabric more support.

Cut the fabric for the wrap of the cozy.

Align the pieces together, right sides together, and pin in place.

Sew a 1/2" seam along the top and bottom edges.

Turn right side out and press the seams with an iron.

Top stitch a 1/4" seam along the top and bottom edges.

Create pleats at each short end. Pinch and fold the fabric 1/2" in towards the center. Pin in place.

Then, pinch and fold again 1/2" in towards the first pleats and pin.

Sew a 1/4" seam along the pleats to tack them in place.

Cut a second piece of fabric to 5" x 5".

Align the embroidered piece on top, right sides together, and pin in place.

Sew a 1/4" seam along the top and bottom edges.

Turn right side out and press the seams.

Also, turn the open ends in 1/4" and press.

Insert the ends of the wrap into the open ends and pin.

Top-stitch a 1/8" seam along the outer edge of the shape.

You can add safety pins to the back to help hold the cozy in place.
