Draw an 8" x 8" square on the canvas. Leave a few inches of excess fabric around the shape for hooping.

Use an air-erase pen to mark the center of each side.

Draw lines to connect the center marks.

A template is a printout of a design, and it's an excellent tool to plan where to stitch.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software.
If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is
a free program to use.

Arrange the template on the fabric, lining up the center of the template with the center of the square. Ensure there is at least 1" of space between the edges of the design and the edges of the square.

Hoop the fabric with a piece of medium-weight cutaway stabilizer, lining up the marks on the fabric with the marks on the hoop.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design. Move the hoop so the needle is right over the center point.

Embroider the design.

After embroidering, trim away the excess stabilizer on the back of the embroidery.

Cut out the square.

For the back of the pouch, cut another piece of fabric to 8" x 8".

Align the front embroidered piece and the back piece together, right sides facing. Pin together.

Sew a 1/4" seam along the sides and bottom, leaving the top open.

Turn the fabric right side out.

Turn the top edge of the fabric in 1/4" and press in place with an iron.

To prepare the inner lining, cut two pieces of the nylon to 8" x 8".

Align the pieces together, right sides facing, and pin in place.

Sew a 1/4" seam along the bottom and two sides only.

Leave one side open as this will be the top of the lining.

Leave the lining wrong side out.

Turn the top edge over 1/4" and press in place. Make sure the iron is on a low setting, and use a pressing cloth.

Insert the inner lining into the assembled front and back piece.

Align the top folded edges together and pin in place about
1 1/2" down from the top edge.

Cut a piece of the strapping to 10" long. Thread it through one end of the side-lock closure.

Fold the end of the strapping over 1/2" and align the folded end with the strapping about 1 1/2" from the closure. Pin in place.

Cut another piece of strapping to 6 1/2" long. Thread the strapping through the opposite end of the closure.

Fold the end of the strapping over 1/2". Align the folded end with the strapping about 1 1/2" from the closure. Pin in place.

Sew the strapping together on both ends of the closure by sewing a 1" square, starting at the folded edge.

Align the ends of the straps together to form a loop.

With the closure facing up, insert the ends of the straps in between the two layers of the pouch at the center of the back of the pouch.

Insert the ends of the straps about 1 1/2" into the pouch and pin in place.

Unzip the zipper and insert it between the layers on both sides of the top edge of the pouch.

Place the zipper on the inside of the strap so that it will align with the other side of the zipper properly.

Pin in place.

Using a zipper foot, sew a 1/4"  seam along the edge of the zipper on both sides of the pouch.

This will attach the zipper and the straps to the pouch and will also finish the top edge of the pouch.
