Start by measuring the width of the towel -- this is a hand towel that measures 16" wide.

Using an air-erase pen, draw a rectangle on a piece of quilter's cotton.

To allow for the fabric to wrap around the side edges of the towel, add 3" to the width.

Therefore a 19" x 6 1/2" rectangle is drawn.

A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software.

If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is a free program to use.

Center the template within the shape with equal distances between the center point and the edges of the shape.

Mark the center point and the horizontal and vertical axis lines.

Hoop the fabric with one piece of cutaway stabilizer, lining up the marks on the fabric with the marks on the hoop.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design. Move the hoop so the needle is right over the center point.

Embroider the design.
