There are dozens of thread companies in the world, and each embroiderer has a favorite and preferred brand. The Embroidery Library uses Madeira rayon thread, and provides Madeira numbers for all of our designs. Our customers have asked us to provide thread information for other thread brands, and we’re pleased to offer this thread exchange tool. This thread exchange is intended to help embroiderers find equivalent colors and shades between the many thread manufacturers.
We began this project by contacting various thread manufacturers and asking for actual thread charts. Then, our experienced team of artists and digitizers evaluated each and every color, and determined an appropriate match to Madeira rayon thread. In some instances, no matching thread shade was available, thus some Madeira colors do not have matches to some thread brands.
The Embroidery Library wants this thread exchange to continue to grow and evolve. Today you can convert Madeira rayon thread to Marathon, Ackerman, Robison-Anton, Sulky, Coats & Clark, Fufu, and ARC thread. Over the next several months we will add features so that you can convert thread numbers from other manufacturers. And we hope that you share with us your ideas and suggestions, and tell us what will make this tool especially useful for you.
Keep in mind that due to monitor capabilities and settings, thread texture and sheen, the colors displayed on your monitor will look different from the actual thread. The numbers provided as matches are intended to be a guide only – not a definitive authority as to perfect or ideal comparisons.
